Creating a Domain

If you create an Entity with Import CSV, attributes and domains are auto-generated based on a dataset. See Generate Entity from CSV for more information. Otherwise, click the Add Domain button to open the domain editing window.

In general, attributes with coded terms will have a defined domain (e.g. the domain for gender might be "F","M"). Attributes with unlimited possible values will not have a defined domain (e.g. Year).

Domain Information

Code Name (Required)

Provide the variable name in the relevant dataset and the same Code Name as the associated attribute.

Description (Required)

Add a brief description, including any sources used in creating the domain items. This may be the same as the Definition of the associated attribute.

Domain Items

Click the Add Domain Item button to create a domain item. Add additional domain items for each permissible value in the relevant dataset by clicking the Add button in the upper right corner of the Domain Items window.

Domain Item Name (Required)

Add a descriptive name for the domain item. This may be the same as domain item value.

Value (Required)

Provide the the domain item value (permissible entry value in the table).

Definition (Required)

Briefly describe the domain item value.
